Every passport has a price tag

Every country sells its citizenship. Some take wires. Others take years of taxes.

This site reframes naturalization as what it really is: an implicit price you pay in income tax, consumption tax, and time. Citizenship-by-investment (CBI) states just put the price on the book directly. Everyone else hides it in your payslip and receipts. How the “price” is calculated?

How the “price” is calculated
  • 1. Take the average yearly income needed to live in a country.
  • 2. Apply income + social taxes and VAT + sales taxes to that income.
  • 3. Multiply the yearly tax bill by the years to naturalization.
  • That total is the implied cost of the passport.
